Where the Music Lives
From the Press Release...
Where the Music Lives is a reinvention of a
classic tap dance program. A 12 piece band including five
tap dancers present music of all genres from classic
standards and bebop, to funk and fusion, while paying
tribute to some of music's greats from Duke Ellington to
the recently departed Joe Zaminul. Mentored by Gregory
Hines, Nemr draws from the lineage of tap dancers John
Bubbles, Jimmy Slyde, and Savion Glover as the music
becomes the dance and the dance becomes the music.
Where the Music Lives debuted January 2008 to
critical acclaim.
"Andrew J. Nemr has built a disciplined, likable ensemble
in CPD Plus (the initials stand for Cats Paying Dues). Its
“Where the Music Lives,” at the Julia Miles Theater,
features five tap dancers and seven musicians, including
the ridiculously cool musical director Tommy James, a
longtime collaborator of Savion Glover's"
